Sahitya Patrika a research journal published by the Bangla Department of the university of dhaka. It was first published in the month of Asadh, 1364 BS (1957). Basically, it publishes research articles on bangla language and literature as well as on the history and culture of the country. muhammad abdul hai was the founder-editor of the journal and edited it for twelve years.
Upto 1390 BS (1983) Sahitya Patrika was published twice a year, as winter and monsoon editions. Since 1391 BS (1984) it is being published thrice a year as Asadh, Kartik and Falgun editions.
Ever since its first appearance, the journal has attracted
the attention of scholars and readers. During the past 42 years, about
600 articles and 65 book reviews have appeared in the journal. The articles
cover a wide range of topics: bangla
literature of the ancient and medieval periods, modern Bangla
poetry,
modern Bangla prose, modern Bangla plays, comparative literary criticism,
foreign literature, folk
culture and folk
literature, theories of literature, rhythm and rhetoric, linguistics
and phonetics, dictionary, script and manuscript, periodicals, music and
