Qanungo is a medieval functionary in the collection of revenues from the raiyats. He was the repository of qanuns, or schedules of customary demand of land revenue. There was a qanungo in each pargana, from whom was ascertained the present, past and probable future state of the yield of produce. In this sense the qanungo was a pargana accountant and registrar.
