Mastarda Surya Sen and his compatriots strengthened the anti British movement by occupying Pahartali Railway Club and Dampara Police Line. Pritilata Wadeddar, one of the main associates of
Surya Sen, committed suicide at the time of occupying the Railway Club to avoid arrest. During the War of Liberation the Pak army killed many innocent people in the area.
