Danuj Rai, (Raja) last known Hindu king of East Bengal,
presumably identical with Dasharathadeva. Raja Danuj Rai came to power
towards the close of the twelfth or the early part of the thirteenth century
AD. He is said to have occupied a portion of the Sena Kingdom in the neighbourhood
of sonargaon
sometime between 1260 and 1268 AD. Ultimately he captured the Sena kingdom
of vikramapura
defeating a successor of Keshavasena before 1280 AD. He continued to rule
East Bengal for sometime with his headquarters at Vikramapura and then
transferred the capital to Sonargaon. Danuj Rai entered into an agreement
with Sultan
ghiyasuddin balban in 1282 AD and promised to guard against
the escape of the rebellious mughisuddin
tughral by water.
Nothing more is heard of him.
